An inclusive outdoor fitness area at the heart of the European Youth Centre
In Strasbourg, at the European Youth Centre, a new inclusive outdoor fitness area has been created. Located in this emblematic environment dedicated to encounter, learning, and cultural diversity, the development perfectly illustrates the centre’s commitment to promoting accessibility, physical activity, and well-being for all.
This space, designed to welcome diverse audiences — young people from the centre, associations, international visitors, local athletes, as well as persons with reduced mobility — combines several classic fitness equipment pieces and a 4-in-1 PRM equipment, allowing everyone to engage in adapted, safe, and empowering physical activity.
The project is part of a strong public health and inclusion initiative, in line with the values of the Council of Europe and the European Youth Centre: equal opportunities, universal accessibility, and the promotion of an active lifestyle.

A layout designed for accessibility, safety, and daily use
The installation located at the European Youth Centre in Strasbourg was created to meet the specific needs of Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM), while remaining accessible to the general public.
Inclusive features include:
- a stabilized ground surface allowing for smooth wheelchair movement,
- adapted turning areas,
- equipment installed at ergonomic heights,
- clear explanatory panels, understandable by users of all languages,
- durable materials resistant to intensive use and harsh weather conditions.
This inclusive space embodies the centre’s commitment to offering a universal sports venue, usable by everyone without assistance, in a spirit of respect, equity, and freedom.
The 4-in-1 PRM: a flagship equipment for inclusion
The core of the installation is the 4-in-1 PRM, a versatile piece of equipment allowing for a multitude of gentle, controlled, and fully wheelchair-accessible movements.
This equipment helps develop:
- joint mobility,
- coordination,
- fine motor skills,
- light muscle strengthening,
- flexibility,
- fluidity of movement.
Its ergonomic grips, natural guidance, and open structure facilitate safe, intuitive, and motivating use for persons with disabilities.
It also helps regain confidence in daily movements — an essential element of individual autonomy.
This equipment perfectly symbolizes the philosophy of inclusive outdoor fitness: an adapted, empowering, accessible practice that respects everyone’s abilities.
Classic fitness equipment for versatile and intergenerational training
Around the PRM module, several classic outdoor fitness equipment pieces complete the installation, enabling sessions for:
- cardio,
- muscle strengthening,
- mobility,
- coordination,
- cool-down.
This equipment offers complete freedom of practice: regular athletes, beginners, young residents of the centre, or international visitors can each find a suitable exercise.
This diversity encourages diverse participation and makes this space a lively area, frequented throughout the day.

A place of well-being, encounter, and inclusion at the heart of Strasbourg

It allows for:
- young Europeans to share a moment of sport,
- local associations to organize health and mobility workshops,
