Stand with your feet hip-width apart and grasp the dead lift bar with pronated hands. Bend your knees slightly and, keeping your back straight, lift the bar using the strength of your legs and back, until you are standing upright. Lower the bar slowly, keeping control of the movement. Adjust the load according to your level and progress gradually. Inhale as you lift the bar and exhale as you lower it. Be sure to keep the abdominals engaged throughout the movement to protect the lower back.
